Farmer's market tips, and benefits to eating seasonal...

Seasons and markets are my largest source of inspiration when it comes to menu development. I find that paying tribute to seasons guarantee fresh produce and most important nutrients. When sourcing produce its best to stay local. By sourcing regional products it allows less travel time and therefore results in fresher and riper produce. Our vegetables and fruits are known to have more nutrients when ripening on the parent plant versus the ripening on a store shelf. Below are some of my favorite Fall root vegetables and their health benefits.

Fall Super Foods:

Root veggie's are a beneficial source of nutrient's as they are grown underground at the base of the plant. They help to feed the plant nutrients in colder months. This makes them very high in antioxidants and vitamins such as B,C, and A.

My Favorite Fall Veggies and Benefits:

Ginger, Turmeric- aids in nausea, digestion and inflammation. Helps to eliminate bloating.

Maca Root- natural source of iodine and iron (good for thyroid disorders)

Yucca- Helps those with High Cholesterol, Arthritis. High in Vitamin C.

Beets- High in antioxidants; nitric acid, fiber, magnesium, potassium etc..

Radishes- Vitamins A, C, E, B6 and K. Powerful diuretic and good for detoxification. It's also a blood cleaner and helps in eliminating toxins plus waste. Treats urinary and Kidney Disorders.
